Very clean. ■ Enomoto Shoten ■ Size: 13.5 x 9.5 cm, 64 pages ■ All 2-color printing ■ Jiro Kuwata's debut is said to be "Kaiki Seidan" (Strange Star Cluster) published by Seigasha in 1948. However, there is a work that has been a mystery among fans for a long time. That is the "Masked Phantom Thief" introduced this time. This small paperback, which appeared as one of the Gold Manga series published by Enomoto Publishing, does not even have the author's name, let alone the year of publication. However, it is considered a Jiro Kuwata work because the letters "J.K" are on the first page's title page, and it closely resembles Kuwata's artwork from that time. ■ The story: The power of science and artificial thunderstorms are being misused. Inspector Notre calls on detectives Smoke and Gramin to solve the case. On their way back, Smoke is kidnapped by a mysterious group, but escapes thanks to his brother Top. The mysterious group was the Alhahet gang, led by a gentleman in a mask called Jaken. One day, Smoke and Top infiltrate the gang's ship, the Chinbotz, and discover that Gramin was one of the gang members. Gramin, who is apprehended, reforms and leads the brothers to Jaken's hideout. As a result of the big arrest, Gramin dies in the line of duty, but finally, Jaken falls into a bottomless swamp and the case is solved.
